The Government of Australian Capital Territory is set to release an updated ACT Critical Skills List, with several new occupations being added and removed. This update creates more opportunities for skilled migrants whose occupation aligns with current labour market needs in Canberra.

New Occupations Added to ACT Critical Skills List
This update expands the list across multiple sectors, including management, engineering, healthcare, IT, education, and skilled trades. Newly added roles include corporate services managers, supply and distribution managers, conference and event organisers, as well as hospitality and service managers.
Professional occupations such as auditors, architects, landscape architects, electrical engineers, and electronics engineers are now included. In addition, healthcare and education roles like veterinarians, university lecturers, tutors, pharmacists, and enrolled nurses are also part of the update.
The list also recognises demand in the technology and legal sectors, with multimedia specialists, web developers, and solicitors now eligible. Skilled trades such as motor mechanics and electricians continue to play a key role in addressing workforce shortages in Australia.
Occupations Removed from the ACT Critical Skills List
Alongside the additions, two occupations have been removed:
Financial Investment Adviser
Financial Investment Manager
These changes reflect the evolving labour market needs in Australia.
What This Means for Skilled Visa Applicants
For many applicants, this update creates new eligibility for ACT nomination pathways, particularly for Subclass 491 and Subclass 190 visas. Candidates who were previously unable to apply due to occupation restrictions may now have a clear pathway to skilled migration in Canberra.
