Workers from Vietnam will be the one of the first to be employed on Australian farms under the new Australian Agriculture Visa program.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vietnam and Australia has signed the first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the program.<\/span><\/p>\n

The visa is not available yet, however, the signing of this MOU is the first step towards getting the program up and running.<\/span><\/p>\n

At this stage it is not clear when the first workers will arrive or how many will be allowed. The Australian Government has indicated that the first phase will focus on lower skilled farming occupations. The Government has also indicated that it intends to provide a pathway to permanent residency as well but the details are not yet settled.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next phase will be for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to enter into discussions with approved employers and labour hire companies to get contracts for Vietnamese workers underway.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the Australian Agriculture Visa program, employees will be recruited to work across a range of agriculture sectors, including horticulture, dairy, wool, grains, fisheries and forestry, including support services and primary processing.<\/span><\/p>\n
